Tens frames and teens

WALT recall addition and subtraction of teens

In maths, we are learning to recall addition and subtraction of teen numbers using tens frame. We are slowly building up the strategy to be able to recall the answers to different subtraction and addition problems instantly. We are using different strategies like knowing addition is commutative and counting on from the bigger numbers.

WALT identify NZ notes and coins

WALT identify NZ notes and coins.

We had Captain Cash from ASB come to visit Room 4.
We learnt lots about saving money, spending money and
sharing money.

Miss Donnell decided to test us and see if we remembered how to sort out the coins and notes from biggest to smallest.

Look at my sorting success!

analogue clocks.

Room 4 have been learning about measurement
this term and our focus has been on time. We
have been learning about lots of forms of time,
from days of the week to ages of people. We
have made our own clocks that can tell different
times of the day that are important to us.

WALT identify 2D and 3D shapes

WALT identify 2D and 3D shapes.

This term Room 4 have been learning about
shapes. We have been learning about how to
sort shapes and what different shapes look like.

Miss Donnell took us outside to test our knowledge
on what shapes we know. She gave us some
chalk to try and draw the shapes we knew. Then
she said shapes out loud like rectangle, triangle,
a shape with 3 sides and we had to try and draw
them!

'I can draw lots of different shapes. I like using chalk!'

WALT identify numbers to 5

WALT identify numbers to 5

The Dolphins group have been working on identifying numbers to 5. Once we connected the number itself and the number word, we started looking at what that number looked like. Miss Donnell showed us a game called 'Roll and Cover' which helped us to match the dice patterns to the numbers.

'The hard number to find is 5 because it looks like 4 on the dice.'

Shape Pictures

We are learning to recognise 2d shapes in every day life.

Room 0 have been busy exploring shapes in a range of different ways.  One activity we did was to choose a range of 2d shapes and put them together to create a picture.  By doing this nga tamariki are able to see how shapes can be seen all around us every day.

"I made a house using lots of shapes", said Liam.

I can match the correct number to the set of objects

In Maths we have been learning to match the correct number to the set of objects.  This meant counting how many objects there were and then finding the number that corresponded with that set.  We then played games to see how quickly we could match them up.

"It was easy matching up the numbers to the dots because I am good at counting the dots."
